Contemporary African
I began my dance training at Laban; in 1994 I transferred to Roehampton Institute graduating in 1997 with a BA combined (Hons) in Dance Studies and Social Policy and Administration. During my dance training in London I regularly travelled to Ghana taking classes in West African traditional dances. As part of my dance studies in 1995 I was selected to represent Roehampton institute in an exchange programmes at Gaucher College, Baltimore, Maryland. I then went on that year to work and Tour in Atlanta performing with Soweto Street Beat Dance Company from South Africa.
When I graduated from Roehampton I enrolled on a teacher training course at Morley College. I then began teaching as a freelance dance teacher part time in schools and community. Since 2002 I have been solely committed to teaching dance in education and community settings. Over the years I have worked extensively with young people for various youth performing arts projects including the Duke of Edinburgh Awards, Impact
Dance, Stuart Thomas Dance, Paddington Arts , East London Dance and L'Ouverture. In 2005 I became head of Dance studies at Kensington and Chelsea College where I teach Contemporary and African dance. In the summer of 2006 I began running African dance classes at the Siobhan Davis Studios ending in the summer of 2007. In May this year I became curriculum leader for performing Arts at Kensington and Chelsea College. I am currently further developing my own style and movement vocabulary in African Dance and pursuing my final year of my PGCE.
Berg is also an experienced DJ and has been one of the main promoters of Latin club nights in London at venues such as Bar Madrid, Havana, Paparazzi, El Metro and many others. He continues to work passionately to keep Lambada’s magic alive and recognised.
So come and try this beautiful dance. |
