Modern Fusion
David Blake is an international performer/tutor and has over 15 years of experience, having been trained in Jazz, Horton technique, Graham technique, Cuban modern, Cuban folk, Afro-Caribbean, Cuban Ballet and the Royal Academy of Dance Ballet through the Cathy Levy Performing Arts School, Edna Manley College (Jamaica) and California State University, San Bernardino from where he received a BA in Marketing. He is a former principle dancer of the internationally renowned National Dance Theatre Company of Jamaica (NDTC) and has toured extensively throughout the Caribbean, United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Currently he is performing in London’s West End musical The Lion King.
David has conducted master classes and dance workshops in Jazz, Modern and Afro-Caribbean internationally. He has taught and choreographed for Colleges, Universities and Professional Schools including the University of the West Indies Dance Society, Edna Manley College for the Visual and Performing Arts (Jamaica), Cross Roads School of Arts and Sciences (Summer Workshop) in Santa Monica, El Camino College Dance Department and the California State University, San Bernardino Dance Company.
Throughout his professional career David has worked with and performed in choreography produced by Donald McKayle, Clive Thompson, Ron Brown, Arsenio Andrade and Rex Nettleford. His performance work also includes the musical ‘Jesus 2000’ at the Ryerson Theatre Toronto, Canada, guest artist for Lake Arrowhead Classical Ballet Company’s presentation of the ‘Nutcracker’, Winfred R. Harris in Denver, Jazz Antiqua Dance and Music Ensemble for the Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP) showcase at the City Center in New York and Project 21 Dance Consortium in North Hollywood.
David’s career has also included charitable work through Theatre Cares (London) where he recently staged ‘Tribute to the Dreams’ for their Cabaret at Trafalgar Studios and the Missionaries of the Poor where he has choreographed for and participated in musicals staged in the Caribbean, the United States, and Europe to raise funds to support programs for the poor and destitute in Jamaica, Philippines, Haiti, India, and Uganda. |
