Sevillanas
Zandra Escudero has been dancing Sevillanas for the past 51 years and insists she will never stop. Internationally known for her dancing and choreography, she also teaches at Danceworks and other London venues, including the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).
Zandra says that Flamenco can take you over. It captures people's imagination. It's full of emotion. In Flamenco passion is more visible than in other forms of dance. Foot stamping, head tossing and skirt swishing originate in the anger and sadness of the Spanish gypsies. Deep Flamenco (Jondo) is about loss or unrequited love. Even in light Flamenco (Chico), happiness is a surface thing. Sad songs sung in a happy way.
Sevillanas dance is majestic and requires intense concentration. It is a therapeutic exercise that continues to evolve. You never stop learning.
